The Mansfield University Writing Center

Professors of writing classes are encouraged to refer students with writing problems to the Writing Center, located in South Hall 211. The Writing Center is staffed by trained peer tutors who will provide Mansfield University students help with any aspect of their writing. The tutors do not proofread or edit student papers, but help students to identify their writing problems in a specific essay, as well as any general writing problems, and then help the students to learn how to correct those problems (see "Policies and Guidelines for Tutoring").

Students who want a tutor's assistance with their writing should:

  1. stop by or call the Writing Center (Ext. 4150) for an appointment,

  2. bring to the appointment the student writing to be discussed and the professor's written assignment,

  3. tell the tutor on what aspect of their writing they want to concentrate,

  4. allow enough time between the tutoring appointment and the assignment due date for revision and possible follow-up tutoring sessions.

At the completion of each tutoring session, the tutor will complete a "Tutor's Report" that explains the work performed in the tutoring session and will send a copy of the report to the tutee's professor.

The Writing Center's hours may vary slightly from semester to semester, but it is generally open mornings and afternoons M-F and evenings M-TH. All professors teaching a writing course will receive the Writing Center's schedule for the current semester within the first few weeks of classes.
